Red LED crane safety lights projecting a warning square on the floor under an overhead crane load

Mark the Danger Zone Under Every Lift

LED crane safety lights mount on the trolley and move with the hook and load. They project bright red or blue lines, spots or a safety box onto the floor, so everyone can see where not to stand. For higher cranes and other hazard areas, an LED sign projector can cast a stop sign, caution sign or your own custom sign. SafeLift Crane Aid supplies both product lines, manufactured by Straits Lighting.

Why crane safety lights

Overhead and gantry cranes lift heavy loads above workers and equipment. Crane safety lights give a constant, highly visible warning that moves with the load, so they don't rely on sound alone. That makes them useful in loud plants and for workers who may be deaf or hard of hearing.

Real-time hazard awareness. The lights move with the hook and load and create a live safety perimeter on the floor.

Reinforces safe distances. The visible warning boundaries around the suspended load's path help support your crane safety program.

Operator precision. Positioning lights help operators place the crane more precisely.

Built for industry. The lights are IP67 rated against dust and water, UL listed, and work indoors or outdoors from −40 °F to 185 °F (−40 °C to 85 °C).

Low maintenance. LED fixtures have a rated life of 50,000 hours.

Fits most cranes. The lights suit overhead (ceiling), gantry, single- and double-girder bridge, jib, monorail and workstation cranes.

Straits Lighting 140W LED crane safety light with line lens

140W crane safety lights: red or blue, spot or line

The Straits Lighting SL930SAF 140W is the workhorse. It's a round, high-output LED fixture that mounts on the trolley frame with an adjustable yoke (U) bracket.

Spot or line. Without the lens, it projects an intense circular spot from long distances. Fit the removable line lens and it projects a straight warning line. Note that the lens reduces the light's effective range by more than half.

Red or blue. Red is the universal danger colour. Blue stands out on red-toned or bright floors, helps workers with red colour blindness, and pairs with red for dual-colour zones.

Output: 11,666 lumens with a focused 5° beam.

Ratings: IP67, UL listed, built-in surge protection.

Ideal for cranes from 10 to 35 ft (about 3 to 10.7 m).

Power: 9–60 V. Each 140W light needs its own external crane light driver (see section 5).

Size: 9 × 3.86 × 9.21 in.

Installed height 16 ft (4.9 m): beam length 13.7 ft (4.2 m)

Installed height 32 ft (9.8 m): beam length 31.5 ft (9.6 m)

Installed height 49 ft (14.9 m): beam length 49.2 ft (15.0 m)

The beam length is roughly the same as the installed height. Visibility depends on the ambient light in your building. Above about 35 ft, or under very bright skylights or LED high bays, we may recommend an LED sign projector instead (section 6).

Common configurations

Safety box (4 lights). Four lights with line lenses form a box around the load, a clear exclusion zone under the hook.

Warning spot. A single spot, or four spots, marks the hook or trolley position.

Single bridge positioning light. A line marks the bridge position on the floor.

Double bridge positioning lights. Lines on both sides mark the bridge travel path.

Complete 4-light system. This includes four 140W red or blue lights, four 150W drivers, and the mounting hardware and yoke brackets, ready to install.

The 18W line light is a low-profile rectangular fixture that makes a linear beam, in blue (also listed in red). It mounts on a yoke and can be used on its own or with red line lights. Several 18W lights can share one driver.

150W LED crane light driver with wiring leads

Crane light drivers

LED crane lights need a driver (power supply). It mounts remotely, out of the way, which keeps the light on the trolley low-profile.

150W driver (SLDR-150W): 100–277 V. It powers one 140W light, or several 18W/24W lights up to 150 W in total. It's IP65 rated, UL8750 (Type "HL"), suitable for indoor or outdoor use, with four mounting holes.

CSA approved. Drivers conform to CSA C22.2 No. 250.13-12 (Canadian electrical safety standard).

Larger drivers are also available: 480W (180–528 V) and 600W (90–305 V).

Straits Lighting LED sign projector with remote control

Custom LED sign projector

The Straits Lighting SL930PRO LED sign projector casts highly visible warning signs onto floors or walls. Stock signs include stop signs, forklift traffic, pedestrian crossing, PPE required, caution and red warning circles, or we can project your own custom sign. Because the sign is projected light, there's nothing on the floor to wear off.

Remote control. Turn signs on or off, switch between them, or set a timer.

Up to 3 logos per projector, in 1-, 2-, 3- or 4-colour or full colour.

Custom logos are available from your own .jpg file. Additional fees may apply.

Mounting. It has an adjustable 0–90° mount and is recommended for heights up to 50 ft (about 15 m).

Useful for aisles, walkways, busy forklift areas and damp locations where ordinary signs won't stick.

On cranes. On cranes with frequent high-speed starts and stops, mount it with a shock-absorbing gasket or vibration-isolating mount.

Models: 80W, 100W, 150W, 200W and 300W: beam angle 15/25/40°, IP65. 400W and 600W: beam angle 15/30/50°, IP66.

All models: 6500 K, 85–265 V AC, RoHS.

Where they're used

Manufacturing plants, warehouses, shipyards, paper mills, printing facilities, fabrication shops, loading bays, and heavy equipment and engine repair shops. They're useful anywhere people and forklifts move around active cranes.

Why buy from SafeLift Crane Aid

Crane people. We inspect, repair and maintain overhead cranes across Saskatchewan and Northern Manitoba, so we know where a light should mount on your trolley or bridge and how to wire it.

The right product for your height. We'll recommend 140W lights, 18W line lights or a sign projector based on your mounting height and how bright your building is.

One call. We supply the lights and projectors, and we can inspect and load-test your crane on the same visit.
