SafeLift Crane Load Sensor — Overhead Crane Safe Load Indicator
Know What Your Crane Is Lifting — In Real Time
The SafeLift Crane Load Sensor fits any overhead crane, hoist, or structure without modification. Real-time load indication, structural monitoring, and data logging in one system, with no compensating shive pin required.
What It Is
The SafeLift Load Sensor is a universal overhead crane safe load indicator developed and supplied exclusively by Safelift Crane Aid in Saskatchewan and Northern Manitoba. The system uses a high-precision strain gauge sensor bonded directly to the crane's existing structure. It reads the actual load being lifted and displays it in real time. No shive pin modification, no structural changes, no downtime to install. Three years of field trials at an active client site have confirmed consistent, accurate performance in a demanding industrial environment.
What It Does
Displays the live load on every lift. The Flexco I-5000 indicator unit shows gross, net, lb, and kg readings simultaneously on a bright LED display, visible from the floor.
Monitors structural health. By traveling the trolley empty and then with a known weight, operators and maintenance teams can detect permanent deformation, impact damage, cracks, or early structural failure in crane bridges, girders, and end trucks before a problem becomes a shutdown.
Alerts before an overload. Two programmable relay outputs can be set to trigger an overload cut-off or a slack cable cut-off. Relays are rated to 240V / 12A. A built-in time delay compensates for the swing effect during lifts.
Logs data. Every lift is recorded. Maintenance teams, plant managers, and safety officers have a documented load history for every crane the system is installed on.
Monitors runways. The same trolley travel method used for bridge and girder monitoring applies to end trucks and runway rails, extending structural monitoring the full length of the system.
One System, Any Crane
The SafeLift Load Sensor installs on any crane without modifying the existing structure: overhead bridge cranes (single and double girder), monorail hoists, jib cranes, custom structures and lifting frames, and order picking trucks and elevated work platforms. Rated capacity matches the structure. There is no upper limit set by the sensor itself.
System Components
Flexco FLEX-C Strain Gauge Sensor: A 25mm x 25mm x 5mm strain gauge bonded to the crane's existing structural steel. No shive pin. No modification to the hoist or crane mechanism. Rated capacity same as the structure (unlimited). Total error: 0.5% to 3% (based on actual structure). Operating temperature: -40C to +60C. Optional stainless steel protective cover. Cable length custom to site requirements.
Flexco I-5000 Load Indicator: Stainless steel enclosure with a 7-digit LED readout. Power: 9-12V DC, 500mA. Two programmable dry-contact relay outputs (240V / 12A max). Standard functions: overload cut-off, slack cable cut-off. Built-in swing effect time delay. Wireless display option available. Working temperature: -25C to +70C.
Aurora 20 Remote Display (optional): Super-bright 2-inch LED remote display for floor-level visibility, indoor and outdoor use. Viewing range: 50+ feet. Weatherproof enclosure. Operating temperature: -40C to +50C.
Why It Matters
Overloading an overhead crane does not always produce an immediate failure. More often, it causes cumulative structural damage, including deformation in the bridge girder, fatigue cracks in end truck frames, and accelerated wear in wheels and rails, often going undetected until an inspection or, worse, a failure. The SafeLift Load Sensor gives operators and maintenance teams the data to confirm every lift is within rated capacity, detect structural changes over time, build a documented load history supporting CSA B167-26 compliance, and reduce unplanned downtime and emergency repair costs.
Installed and Supported by Safelift
Safelift Crane Aid installs, calibrates, and supports the SafeLift Load Sensor across Saskatchewan and Northern Manitoba. Our technicians are factory-trained crane specialists, not general electricians or rigging contractors. The same team that inspects and services the crane performs every installation.
